Safety ALRT Pty Ltd (we, us, our) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
By using the Safety ALRT mobile application or website (the Service), you consent to the collection and use of your information as described below.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
Account Data: When you sign in via Google or Microsoft, we receive your email, name, and a unique ID. We do not store your passwords.
Anonymous Public Reports: All hazard alerts you submit are completely anonymous to other users. When you post a report, other users see only:

The hazard type, location, and description

Any photos or videos you upload

A timestamp
Other users do NOT see your name, email, username, profile picture, or any identifying information.
Report Management: Once submitted, reports cannot be edited or deleted by you. This protects the integrity of safety information. If you need a report removed, contact support@safetyalrt.com with details (approximate time, location, hazard type) and we will review your request.
Internal Moderation Records: For safety and abuse prevention, we maintain an internal-only record linking your reports to your account. This allows us to:

Identify and remove hoax reports

Suspend accounts that violate our Terms

Respond to valid law enforcement requests

Maintain data integrity for community safety
These internal records are never shared with other app users and are protected under strict access controls.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:

Provide real-time hazard alerts based on your location.

Verify your identity and age eligibility.

Monitor for and prevent hoax reporting or abusive behavior.

Improve App performance and fix technical bugs.

Note: We do not sell your personal information to third parties or data brokers.
4. How We Share Your Information
We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:

Service Providers: With trusted partners who provide hosting (e.g., AWS/Google Cloud), mapping services, and analytics.

Safety & Emergency: We may disclose location or user data to emergency services or authorities if we believe it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to life, health, or safety.

Legal Compliance: If required by a court order, subpoena, or Australian law.
5. Data Security and Storage
Storage: Your data is stored on secure, encrypted servers. While we prioritize Australian-based hosting, some data may be processed by global service providers (e.g., Google/Microsoft) subject to standard contractual clauses.
International Transfers: Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Australia.
When this occurs, we ensure:

Providers are bound by contractual obligations equivalent to the APPs

Data is protected by encryption in transit and at rest

We conduct due diligence on provider security practices Countries where data may be processed include: United States (Google/AWS), Singapore (regional cloud infrastructure).
Security: We implement industry-standard encryption (SSL/TLS). However, no electronic transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
6. Your Right and Choices
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

Location Permissions: You can opt-out of location tracking at any time via your device settings, though this will limit the App's functionality.

Deletion: You may request account deletion via the App settings or by emailing support@safetyalrt.com. We will de-identify or delete your data within 30 days.

Why We Retain Reports: Safety reports contribute to community awareness and historical hazard mapping. Deleting reports retroactively could compromise:

Ongoing emergency responses

Pattern analysis for recurring hazards

Legal evidence in serious incidents
Your deleted reports remain in our system but are permanently de-linked from your identity. We cannot identify you as the submitter after account deletion.
Legal Preservation: In rare cases where reports are subject to legal proceedings or law enforcement investigations, we may be required to
retain identifiable data beyond standard deletion timeframes.
7. Children's Privacy
Safety ALRT is strictly for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. If we become aware that a minor has bypassed our age assurance, we will terminate the account and delete the associated data immediately.
