Accessibility Statement | Safety ALRT
Last updated: 18 January 2026
1. Our Comittment
At Safety ALRT, we believe that critical safety information should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or technology. We are committed to ensuring our mobile application and website are accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive impairments.
2. Our Standards
We are actively working toward and striving to achieve the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards. These guidelines explain how to make web and mobile content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.
3. Current Actions and Features
To help all Australians stay safe, we are focusing on the following areas:
-
Screen Reader Compatibility: Ensuring our hazard alerts and navigation buttons are properly labeled for VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android).
-
Contrast and Legibility: Using high-contrast color palettes and supporting dynamic text scaling so users can increase font sizes without breaking the App layout.
-
Simplified Navigation: Designing an intuitive interface that minimizes complex gestures, making it easier for users with motor impairments to navigate.
-
Text Alternatives: Providing text-based summaries for visual map data to ensure the "substance" of an alert is understood even if the map cannot be seen.
4. Work in Progress
While we strive for perfection, we recognize that some parts of the Service may not yet be fully accessible. We are an evolving platform and are currently:
-
Reviewing our third-party data visualizations (like heatmaps or air quality indexes) to improve their accessibility.
-
Auditng our sign-in flow to ensure it is seamless for keyboard-only or switch-control users.
5. Feedback and Support
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Safety ALRT. If you encounter any barriers or have suggestions on how we can improve your experience, please reach out to us:
